Maple Ridge Secondary School is a dual-track English and French Immersion school offering a variety of educational programs and courses from Grades 8 to 12. Programs include advanced placement, honors courses, language courses including Spanish, Japanese, German, and French. The school also offers technology-supported classes (iPad carts, labs).
Early and late French Immersion programs allow students to complete their French Immersion education with an appropriate complement of courses and earn a double Dogwood Diploma.
Our Digital Arts Academy offers students exceptional opportunities. The academy offers courses in digital art using Photoshop, 3D digital video, and animation, special effects for film, desktop publishing, website design, multimedia programming for game development, contemporary music and music composition and sound engineering.
Junior and senior level leadership classes, as well as peer tutoring and Link Crew mentorship program, are also available. Students may also choose from a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs, including American Sign Language Club, HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere), Model United Nations, Creating Change Club, World Scholars Club, Operation Rainbow, Outdoor Club, Fly Fishing Club, Strategic Games, Improv and Cabaret Nights and more.
The school offers special education programs to fully meet the needs of all students. Available services include learning assistance, a gifted program and regular tutorial sessions. Full-time counselling, aboriginal support and youth care worker services are also offered. A career centre assists students with post- secondary planning, work experience and volunteer opportunities. ‘Alternate’ programs include Teen Parent, Journey (ages 12-15) and Outreach (ages 16-19).
Applied Skills & Technology
A wide range of skill development courses are available and may be used towards a certificate program. Courses offered include: cabinet and furniture construction, automotive technology, metalwork, drafting and design, metal fabrication, automotive technology, digital video and animation, foods and nutrition, cook training, cafeteria training, culinary arts, textiles and the list goes on.
MRSS is known for it’s excellent athletic program. The school has three gymnasiums, a full weight room and fitness centre and competition track. Team sports include Badminton, Ball Hockey, Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Field Lacrosse, Golf, Intramurals, Rugby, Soccer, Track & Field, Volleyball, Wrestling. The school also has a lacrosse box, tennis courts and wrestling room. Student yoga classes are also available.
The school’s award-winning music program includes concert bands, jazz bands, concert choirs, vocal jazz and Motown choirs. In addition, students have the opportunity to explore drama, art, ceramics and sculpture, graphic arts, digital photography, media arts, film studies and so much more!
